PointCPD courses are interactive learning on NSW-approved CPD topics, developed and reviewed by practising building industry professionals — 1 CPD point per hour under the NSW scheme, which is self-recorded.
How points are earned under the NSW scheme
NSW recognises CPD at two rates, and the difference is who delivers the learning:
- 1 point per hour — interactive learning on an approved topic, with identifiable learning outcomes, delivered by a provider with industry expertise. Online or face to face. This is the tier our courses are built for.
- 2 points per hour — learning with an assessable outcome tied to a National Training Package or university qualification, delivered by a Registered Training Organisation or an Australian university.
Both tiers are self-recorded. You are not submitting anything at renewal; you keep the evidence and produce it if Building Commission NSW audits you. That is why our certificates carry the course, its CPD topic, the duration, the assessment, the points and a unique serial number — the details an audit actually asks for.
What we do to make our courses count at that tier
- Approved topics only. Every course is filed under one of the eight CPD topic areas NSW recognises, and the topic is printed on your certificate.
- Stated learning outcomes. Each course says what you will be able to do at the end, not just what it covers.
- Genuinely interactive. Scenario decisions, sequencing, site-photo work and checks with feedback — not a video with five questions bolted on.
- Assessed. 80% to pass, with unlimited attempts, so completion means you demonstrated the material.
- Industry expertise. Courses are developed and reviewed by practising building industry professionals.
Built on the National Construction Code itself
A number of our courses are built directly on the National Construction Code and the ABCB's supporting CPD guidance material — the actual clauses and explanatory guides, not a summary of a summary. NCC material is reproduced under the ABCB's CC BY 4.0 licence with attribution to the Australian Building Codes Board. Very few online CPD providers work from the source documents this way. To be clear about what that means: the ABCB does not endorse or accredit CPD providers, and we don't claim it does — the claim we make is about where the content comes from, and you can check it against the Code yourself.
AI drafts, a person approves
Where AI-assisted tools help draft candidate questions or explanatory content from a source guide, nothing publishes until a competent human reviews and approves it. Every generated item carries a review status and a record of who signed it off, so there is a real audit trail showing a person stood behind content that could affect a licence renewal. That is a control, not a nicety.
NSW only, deliberately
Our content is written and reviewed against the NSW scheme. Other states run different frameworks that change as regulators adjust them, and a course written for one does not automatically satisfy another. We would rather cover one jurisdiction properly than claim eight. If you are licensed outside NSW, check your own regulator's requirements before relying on anything here.
Where a course carries a formal approval
Some CPD activity is separately recognised by an approving body. Where that applies to one of our courses, the reference is shown on that course's page and is a real, verifiable identifier issued by the named body — never an internal code of ours. If you want to confirm one independently with the regulator, we encourage it; a claim that cannot survive checking is not one worth making.
What we will not say
It would be commercially easier to imply broader recognition than we have. We do not, because a builder relying on a false CPD claim at renewal is a serious harm, not a marketing exaggeration. What this page says is what we can stand behind: the tier we operate at, how it is earned, and how it is evidenced.
Requirements change. Confirm the current rules with NSW Fair Trading before relying on them for a renewal — and if you are unsure whether a particular course suits your particular renewal, ask us before you buy.
