Why builders choose PointCPD

What you get with every course, not just the points.

Practical, not theoretical

Written by a practising NSW builder around real site decisions: the detail that stops a callback, the clause that decides who pays, the check that passes the inspection.

Assessed, every course

Every course ends with a proper assessment. 80% to pass, unlimited attempts, and an explanation on every question.

Compliance you can prove

Built for the topics NSW recognises, with stated learning outcomes and genuine interaction. Your certificate records the course, the topic, the assessment and the points, with a serial number anyone can verify.

Made for your phone

One screen at a time, big buttons, and progress that saves as you go, so you can start on site and finish at home.

A points ledger that does the maths

Your dashboard shows where you stand against the 12 points NSW requires each year, which renewal each course counts toward, and what is left to do.

Reviewed by building professionals

Courses are reviewed by a licensed Building Practitioner, and any rewrite is reviewed again before it counts for points.

CPD you can prove at an audit

NSW licensed builders need 12 CPD points a year, across the topics NSW recognises. Our courses count as interactive learning on a NSW CPD topic, with clear learning outcomes. The scheme is self-recorded, so at audit time your evidence is what matters.

Our certificate records the details an auditor asks for, and anyone can check it against our register.

A straight answer on “approved providers”: NSW does not approve or endorse CPD providers. If a provider tells you they are “approved by Fair Trading”, ask to see it. Read our full position or the NSW CPD guide.

What you get here that you do not get elsewhere

  • Certificates an auditor can verify, not just download

Every PointCPD certificate carries a unique serial that anyone — including Building Commission NSW in an audit — can check against our records at pointcpd.com.au/verify-certificate/. Of the six NSW builder CPD providers we compare, PointCPD is the only one that publishes a certificate verification lookup; the others issue a certificate you download and keep.

  • Every course is assessed, with an explanation on every question

Every PointCPD course ends in a real assessment: 10 questions, 80% to pass, unlimited attempts, and an explanation shown on every question whether you got it right or wrong. Several NSW providers sell read-only CPD with no test at all.

    Check it yourself

  • Interactive, the way NSW describes it

NSW counts interactive learning with identifiable learning outcomes, and not passive reading or watching. PointCPD courses are built that way: branching site scenarios, drag-and-drop sequencing, knowledge checks with instant feedback, and an assessment.

    Check it yourself

  • Written against the National Construction Code

PointCPD courses on NCC subjects are tagged as NCC content and written against the Code provisions a NSW builder actually applies on site, rather than summarising the Code in the abstract.

    Check it yourself

  • The only NSW provider that guarantees to beat a lower price by 10%

PointCPD guarantees to go 10% under any advertised price you find at a listed NSW builder CPD provider, before you buy or within three days after. None of the six providers we compare offers any price match or price beat.

    Check it yourself

  • Your CPD record is kept, not just emailed to you

NSW CPD is self-recorded and you must produce the evidence if you are audited, keeping records for three renewal periods. PointCPD keeps a points ledger on your account showing every course, its topic, its points and the date, exportable at any time, so the record survives a lost inbox.

    Check it yourself

  • Built for the NSW scheme only

PointCPD covers New South Wales only. Every course is filed under one of the eight CPD topic areas NSW recognises and the topic is printed on the certificate, so what you did maps to what the scheme asks for.

    Check it yourself

  • Built by someone who has run registered training organisations

PointCPD was founded by a vocational trainer with twenty years in vocational education, teaching since 2006 and owning four registered training organisations since 2012: a trades college, an English language college, a CRICOS-registered accounting and business college, and an entrepreneurship college. The courses are built by people who train for a living and who have run training organisations under national regulation. PointCPD is not itself an RTO and does not deliver nationally recognised training: its courses sit in the NSW scheme's 1-point-per-hour interactive tier, which any provider with industry expertise may deliver.

    Check it yourself

  • Reviewed by a licensed Building Practitioner

PointCPD content is prepared with a licensed Building Practitioner — a registration above a builder licence, not another word for it — and every guide and site template he has reviewed carries his name and registration on the page, so you can see who stood behind it instead of taking "written by experts" on trust.

Questions builders ask before they switch

Can I do my NSW builder CPD online?

Yes. NSW counts interactive learning on a NSW CPD topic, delivered online or face to face by a provider with industry expertise. It is self-recorded: you keep the evidence and produce it if Building Commission NSW audits you.

Is PointCPD an approved CPD provider?

NSW does not approve or endorse any CPD provider, us included. Our courses cover the topics NSW recognises, with learning outcomes, interaction and an assessment, and a certificate that records what an audit asks for.

How many CPD points does each course earn?

Every course earns between 2 and 4 points, based on how much each course covers. It is shown on every course page and printed on your certificate, and a handful of courses covers a year’s 12 points.

How are PointCPD courses assessed?

Every course ends with an assessment. You need 80% to pass, you can retry as often as you need, and every question explains why the answer is right.

Will my certificate stand up to an audit?

Each certificate records the course, its NSW CPD topic, the duration, the assessment and the points, with a serial number anyone can verify online. Your certificates and points ledger stay in your account.

Can I do the courses on my phone?

Yes. Courses run one screen at a time on any phone, tablet or computer, and your progress saves as you go, so you can stop on site and pick it up later on another device.

How does the PointCPD price beat guarantee work?

Find the same number of NSW builder CPD points advertised cheaper online by a listed provider, and we will beat their price by 10%. Claim before you buy, or within 3 days (72 hours) of buying from us. Send us a screenshot of their current, publicly advertised price. We check it and reply by email. Not on the list? Get in touch and we will look at it. The full terms and the list of providers are on our price beat guarantee page.

Can an auditor verify my CPD certificate?

Every PointCPD certificate carries a unique serial that anyone — including Building Commission NSW in an audit — can check against our records at pointcpd.com.au/verify-certificate/. Of the six NSW builder CPD providers we compare, PointCPD is the only one that publishes a certificate verification lookup; the others issue a certificate you download and keep. Nothing beyond what is printed on the certificate is disclosed, and only to someone who already has the serial.

Which NSW builder CPD provider is cheapest?

Prices move, so the honest answer is to check on the day: PointCPD publishes what each of the six NSW providers advertises, with the date we checked and a link to their own page. PointCPD sells 12 points for $169 and guarantees to go 10% under any advertised price you find at a listed provider, before you buy or within three days after, which no other NSW provider offers.

Do I need an approved CPD provider in NSW?

No. For the 1-point-per-hour tier the NSW Government says the activity can be delivered by any training provider with industry expertise, and Building Commission NSW does not endorse providers. There is no register of approved builder CPD providers in NSW, so nobody can be "Fair Trading approved" — what the scheme approves is the activity, by description. The 2-point-per-hour tier is different: it needs an assessable outcome tied to a national training package or university qualification.

Does online CPD count for a NSW builder licence?

Yes. The NSW rules say interactive learning can be online or face to face. What does not count is passive consumption — reading a PDF or watching a recording with no interaction, no stated learning outcomes and no provider expertise behind it. NSW counts interactive learning with identifiable learning outcomes, and not passive reading or watching. PointCPD courses are built that way: branching site scenarios, drag-and-drop sequencing, knowledge checks with instant feedback, and an assessment.

How many CPD points does a NSW builder need?

12 CPD points in the 12 months before each licence renewal, for individual builder and swimming pool builder licence holders. The requirement is annual whatever the licence term, so a three-year licence needs 12 points in each of its three years. Up to 11 surplus points carry forward for 12 months; anything above that is lost.

What happens if I get audited for CPD in NSW?

NSW CPD is self-recorded: you lodge nothing at renewal, but you keep a diary and the evidence and produce it if Building Commission NSW audits you, for three renewal periods. NSW CPD is self-recorded and you must produce the evidence if you are audited, keeping records for three renewal periods. PointCPD keeps a points ledger on your account showing every course, its topic, its points and the date, exportable at any time, so the record survives a lost inbox.

Is PointCPD CPD assessed, or just reading?

Every PointCPD course ends in a real assessment: 10 questions, 80% to pass, unlimited attempts, and an explanation shown on every question whether you got it right or wrong. Several NSW providers sell read-only CPD with no test at all.

What happens if I do not finish my CPD before my licence renews?

The Commissioner can refuse to renew or restore the licence, and without a current licence you cannot contract for residential building work over the NSW licensing threshold. The only exemption is for serious illness or misadventure, requested on a form at renewal.
