NSW CPD topic
Technical CPD courses for NSW builders
Waterproofing, framing, footings, condensation and the NCC clauses behind them. The topic area most defects trace back to.
Technical issues is the first of the eight CPD topic areas NSW recognises for builders and swimming pool builders, and the one with the most direct line to the work. NSW lists waterproofing, tiling, timber flooring, multi-storey construction and the masonry code as examples. It is also where most of the expensive problems live: the wet-area membrane that was never terminated properly, the balcony fall that was built the wrong way, the bracing that was drawn but not fixed.
Courses in this topic are built from the source documents rather than a summary of them: the National Construction Code and the Australian Standards it calls up, reproduced under the ABCB’s open licence and worked through at clause level with site photographs and scenario decisions. You finish knowing what the Code actually requires, not just that it exists.
Under the NSW scheme these are 1 point per hour activities: interactive learning on an approved topic, with stated outcomes, from a provider with industry expertise. The topic is printed on your certificate, which is what an auditor checks. How the points work, and how they are recorded, is in the NSW builder CPD guide; the basis on which our courses earn them is on the accreditation page.
