Refer a mate, both get value
Builders trust other builders more than they trust marketing copy — that’s just how this industry works, and it’s the whole logic behind a referral programme. If PointCPD has been genuinely useful to you, telling a colleague about it is worth more to them than anything we could say ourselves.
How referrals work today
Right now, the simplest and most direct way to refer someone is exactly what it sounds like: tell them about PointCPD directly, point them at the course catalogue, and let the product speak for itself. We’re a young platform, and we’re deliberately building our referral mechanics (tracked referral links, automatic credit for both parties) properly rather than shipping something half-finished just to have a feature on this page — when a fully tracked referral system is live, this page will be the first place it’s announced, with the actual mechanics spelled out plainly.
Why we’re not overpromising here
It would be easy to write vague language like “coming soon” and leave it at that indefinitely. Instead: this page will be updated with real, specific mechanics (how credit is tracked, what each party actually gets, and how to claim it) the moment there’s something real to describe — not before. If you refer someone in the meantime, we genuinely appreciate it, and we’d rather you know honestly where the formal programme stands than oversell something not yet built.
What makes a good referral
PointCPD works best for licensed builders who want CPD that’s fast, genuinely interactive, and mobile-first — someone who’s currently doing (or dreading) old-style passive-video-and-quiz CPD is exactly the person who’ll notice the difference immediately. If you know a colleague renewing their NSW licence, or someone in QLD, VIC, or WA who wants to get ahead of an evolving CPD requirement in their own state, that’s a genuinely useful referral, not just a favour to us.
What to tell them
The honest pitch, in a sentence: modules that take at least 2 points, built for a phone on a job site rather than a desk, with real scenario decisions instead of a talking-head video, unlimited assessment attempts with instant feedback on what you got wrong, and an instant certificate the moment you pass. If they’re in NSW working toward their 12-point annual requirement, that’s the most immediately relevant hook — for other states, point them to the relevant state CPD guide for where their own requirement currently stands.
Referring a whole crew, not just one colleague
If the person you’re thinking of referring is actually a business owner or manager with a team of licensed builders, our company seat accounts (see For Employers) might be the more relevant thing to point them toward — bulk seat purchasing with a Team Dashboard showing everyone’s CPD standing in one place, rather than each staff member buying individually. That’s a genuinely different use case to an individual referral, and worth mentioning specifically if it fits.
Why we think referral will work well here
Builder CPD is a genuinely trust-driven purchase category — you’re deciding what to spend a chunk of your professional development budget and time on, and a recommendation from someone whose judgement you already trust carries far more weight than an ad or a cold search result. That’s exactly the dynamic a referral programme is meant to formalise and reward, rather than leave to chance. It’s also why we’re being careful about getting the mechanics right rather than rushing something out — a referral programme that feels stingy or confusing does more damage to trust than having none at all.
What we’re thinking about for the eventual mechanics
While we haven’t locked anything in publicly yet, the shape we’re working toward is straightforward: a genuine benefit for both the referrer and the person referred, tracked automatically rather than requiring anyone to remember a promo code, and transparent about exactly what each party gets and when. We’d rather take the time to get that right than ship a half-built version and have to walk back promises later.
In the meantime, word of mouth genuinely helps
We don’t have a marketing budget anywhere close to the size of established competitors in this space, which means genuine word of mouth from builders who’ve actually used the platform is disproportionately valuable to us — more so than it would be for a larger, better-funded competitor. If you mention PointCPD to a colleague because it was genuinely useful, that matters to us even without a formal reward attached, and it’s exactly the kind of organic growth we’re hoping the eventual formal programme will accelerate, not replace.
If you want to be notified when the formal programme launches
Get in touch and say you’re interested in the referral programme specifically — we’re not running a formal waitlist system yet, but as a small team we can reasonably keep track of genuine interest and let people know directly when there’s something real to use.
