BASIX is the sustainability certificate every new NSW dwelling, and most substantial alterations, must have before a construction certificate is issued. The designer generates it; the builder has to deliver it. The gap between the two is where most BASIX problems live: a window substituted for a cheaper one, insulation that went in at the wrong R-value, a rainwater tank that never got connected to the toilets. Each of those is a commitment on the certificate, and the certifier will check them at final inspection.

This course is written for the person on site who has to make the certificate true. It covers what the three BASIX assessment areas are (thermal comfort, water and energy), how to read the certificate and the commitments schedule against the plans, which material and fixture choices are locked in by it, and what evidence the certifier expects before signing off an occupation certificate. It uses real certificates and worked substitutions, so you finish knowing which changes are free and which ones send the job back to the designer.

It is filed under the NSW Sustainability CPD topic, where BASIX is one of the regulator’s own examples, and earns points at the 1-point-per-hour tier under the NSW scheme.

Questions about this course

Who is this BASIX course for?

Licensed NSW builders and supervisors delivering new dwellings or alterations that carry a BASIX certificate. It assumes you build houses and have seen a certificate; it does not assume you have ever read one properly.

Does this course count toward my NSW builder CPD?

It is interactive learning on an approved topic (Sustainability), with stated learning outcomes, from a provider with industry expertise, which is the 1-point-per-hour tier under the NSW scheme. The certificate carries the topic, duration, assessment and points for your diary.

Do I need to finish it in one sitting?

No. Progress is saved as you go, so you can do it in pieces on a phone between jobs and pick up where you left off.

What is the assessment?

A short assessment at the end with an 80 per cent pass mark and unlimited attempts. Pass it and the PDF certificate is issued immediately and stays in your account.
