Time is the only input a builder cannot buy more of, and it is the one most often given away for free. A program that exists only in the builder’s head cannot be shared with a subcontractor, cannot support an extension of time claim, and cannot show an owner why a delay was not the builder’s fault.

This course covers time as a controllable resource. Construction programming and scheduling at a level a residential builder will actually maintain, the on-site practices that protect the program from the daily interruptions, extension-of-time procedures and the notices that have to be given for a claim to survive, coordinating subcontractors whose delays are not yours, and the personal time practices that decide whether the paperwork happens at all. It connects the program to the contract, because a delay that is not documented is a delay you absorb.

It is filed under the NSW Business management CPD topic, where time management is one of the regulator’s own examples, and earns points at the 1-point-per-hour tier under the NSW scheme.

Time as the builder’s scarcest resource: construction programming and scheduling, on-site time practices, extension-of-time procedures, subcontractor coordination, office and administrative discipline, and the personal habits that separate organised builders from firefighting ones.

You'll learn: Plan and control time across site and office — building realistic programs, recording and protecting time contractually, and eliminating the common time drains.
