An R-value on a delivery docket is a laboratory number. What the building gets is whatever survives the install: batts compressed behind a downlight, a gap at the top plate, sarking lapped the wrong way, insulation stopped short at the eave. The NCC assesses the thermal envelope as a system, and the certifier signs off on the system, not on the packaging.

This course covers the thermal envelope as it is actually built. Insulation types and where each belongs, what R-value means and how installation erodes it, sarking and vapour-permeable membranes and the difference between them, the NCC 2022 requirements that apply to NSW houses, and how insulation and condensation interact so that fixing one does not create the other. It uses site photographs of installs that passed and installs that did not.

It is filed under the NSW Technical issues CPD topic and earns points at the 1-point-per-hour tier under the NSW scheme.

The thermal envelope done properly: insulation types and R-values, sarking and vapour-permeable membranes, NCC 2022 requirements, condensation management, and the installation details that determine whether the specified performance is actually achieved in the frame.

You'll learn: Specify and install insulation and sarking to NCC 2022 requirements, with correct detailing that avoids condensation and performance failures.
