Most tool injuries on residential sites are not caused by unfamiliar equipment. They happen with the saw someone has used for fifteen years, on the day the guard was tied back or the blade was wrong for the material. As the person conducting the business, the builder carries the duty for the tools on site, including the ones brought by subcontractors and apprentices.

This course is a tool-by-tool reference for the building site: measuring and marking, cutting, fastening, power tools and access equipment. For each it covers correct purpose, the safe operating practice, the guarding and personal protective equipment that goes with it, inspection and tagging expectations, and the failure modes that produce the injuries. It also covers the supervision side, including what to do when a subcontractor arrives with equipment you would not use.

It is filed under the NSW Safety CPD topic and earns points at the 1-point-per-hour tier under the NSW scheme.
